I wanted to make a versatile curry power to capture the authentic and savory flavors in Indian cuisine like curry, dhal, and lentil-based stews. But also wanted something for everyday American use, to add in plain yogurt for a curry yogurt sauce, flavoring soups, stews, tomato sauces, marinades, meat, and vegetables.
As the popularity of curry flavor increases, home-cooks and busy moms will find an exceptional use for our Madras curry powder, and its more unique flavor uses for the seasoning such as hamburgers, scrambled eggs, potato, and tuna salad.
This blend is a kid-friendly blend, it’s not hot but is mild curry powder, as I wanted you to reap all the benefits of the over ten spices in this blend.
If you choose to make your Indian dish super hot (spice wise), add a generous amount of bird chili and gradually increase the curry powder to your taste. I always recommend starting with a teaspoon and increase.
One of the dominant spice, we added to our Madras Curry powder is Turmeric. Its gorgeous yellow color lends itself to curry. Used in India for thousands of years as a spice and medicinal herb. Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has potent anti-inflammatory effects and is a powerful antioxidant.
