Allspice berries, which are dark-brown and round, are native to Jamaica, Central America, and Mexico. All parts of this tropical evergreen are fragrant. Allspice berries have a warm aroma and taste like a fusion of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves—hence the name “allspice.” It is an essential ingredient in jerk blend and is perfect in desserts and bread recipes that call for cinnamon, cloves or nutmeg.
