Plant Based Spice Origin Spices
The clove tree is a tropical evergreen with fragrant leaves. Its crimson flowers seldom develop, as unopened flower buds constitute the spice. They are harvested before flowering, when they are mature but only just turning pink at the base.
Native to the Moluccas, volcanic islands now part of Indonesia, clove reached Europe overland through Alexandria in Roman times.
The Spice Islands were conquered by the Portuguese and then the Dutch, who harshly defended their monopoly until, in 1772, a French official smuggled seedlings to Ile-de-France (Mauritius). Today Zanzibar, Madagascar, and Pemba in Tanzania are the leading exporters; Indonesia uses nearly all of its vast production itself.
The fragrance of cloves is assertive and warm, with notes of pepper and camphor. The taste is fruity but also sharp, hot and bitter; it leaves a numbing sensation in the mouth. As in Allspice, eugenol in the essential oil is mainly responsible for the characteristic taste.
Cloves offer many health benefits, some of which include aiding in digestion, protecting the liver, boosting the immune system, controlling diabetes and preserving bone quality. They also contain anti-mutagenic and anti-microbial properties, along with fighting against oral diseases and headaches while also displaying aphrodisiac properties and are a natural breath freshener.

Madagascar Cloves Nirmalas Kitchen
Cloves must be used sparingly, for they easily overpower other spices.
They are equally good with sweet and savory foods. They go into baked
goods, desserts, preserves, pickling or mulling spice.
In India, they are essential in a Garam Masala, in China to five -spice powder, in Ethiopian Berbere and Middle Eastern Baharat.
Try them on beets, red cabbage, carrots, chocolate, ham, onions, oranges, pork pumpkin, and other squashes and sweet potatoes.
All of our herbs, spices, and blends are the best way to add flavor to food for no extra calories, sugar, sodium, or other junk—which is critical to do when you're trying to lose weight or make that lifestyle shift towards wellness.
Why? It's pretty simple: Research shows that if you don't like the taste of what you eat, you're much less likely to stick to any diet, no matter how disciplined you are. Herbs and spices add a significant amount of flavor to food and can turn, for example, that piece of plain chicken or vegetable into a restaurant-worthy meal, thanks to just a little pinch and dash of herbs and spices.
All our whole spices and spice blends are Zero Sodium, No Salt, No Sugar, No MSG, No Preservatives, No Fillers and Gluten Free- no other crap in them but pure herbs, spices, and mindful loving.
