Service Description
For nearly two decades, Nirmala has been educating students across the globe, on a holistic approach to building healthy eating habits for real life. These fun limited camping series are offered during regular holiday breaks & are available as private events. Classes are suitable for student ages (10-18) who have never cooked, as well as future chefs! Drop-off is at 9:45 am. Pick-up is at 3:00-3:15 pm. See below some of the learning experience; students will participate in supervised activities that include: Building Basic Skills. Cooking helps your child hone necessary math skills by doing something as simple as counting eggs or pouring water into a measuring cup. Global Culture Food & Understanding-Encourage an adventurous palate. Bringing notoriously picky eaters into the kitchen to cook, showcasing what kids their age eat around the world can help get them to open up to new tastes and cultures. Mindful Meditation Exploration -introduces yoga meditation practice that teaches children to be present & mindful while soothed by different scents of flowers, herbs, and spices. Empowers & Boost confidence. Kids love to show what they can do, and working in the kitchen provides opportunities to gain a sense of accomplishment as well as team-building through fun games such as Smell and Tell. Explore your inner artist- Painting with Spices-Connecting with natures pigment, your child develops cognitively, emotionally, & physically as they move their paintbrush across the canvas. Agriculture -Touring the farmstead, meeting farm animals, and learning where our food comes from and how it’s grown and harvested. Plant identification and uses in the kitchen, as well as essential nutrition. Spark Creativity in Cooking - Meals & Snacks-will be prepared on-site by staff and students every day. Water will be available at all times. Meals will include a protein, vegetable, starch, and dessert. Examples include handmade tacos, dumplings, pies, empanadas, pasta dishes, arepas, spice waters, fruit sorbets, and baked tarts. A “Mystery Basket” cooking challenge on the last day! Vegetarian options are available. These are just some of the activities that your child will participate in during the week. Our staff will provide a safe and nurturing environment while expanding your child’s knowledge of the kitchen & their cooking skills. Registration: The cost for each week is $975.00 per student. After purchase we will send a registration form, complete & return.
Cancellation Policy
Policy on Events and Cooking Classes All class sales are final. We do not offer refunds on purchased tickets. If you are unable to attend a class and notify us at least one week (7 days) in advance, you may select another class of equal value within the following two months. If you're a no show, there will be no credit for future classes. Although it very rarely happens, we reserve the right to cancel or change the time or date of the event or class due to weather, safety, or other uncontrollable circumstances. You may schedule or select another class of equal value within the following two months by emailing us at info@nirmalaskitchen.com Policy on Special Events, Kids Cooking Camp, Boot Camp Cooking & Limited Series All Special Events, Limited Series, Kids Cooking Camp and Boot Camp Cooking reservations are taken on a first come, first serve basis so you are encouraged to sign up early. If we cancel a Special Events, Kids Cooking, Limited Series and Boot Camp Cooking for any reason, you will be notified immediately by phone or email and be fully refunded your registration fees. If the Special Events, Kids Cooking Camp, Limited Series and Boot Camp Cooking are held, and you're a no show, there will be no refunds or credit for a future event for any reason. Kids Cooking Camp Classes: Allergies Note: Gluten, nuts, dairy, eggs, and meat are served at camp. If your child has life-threatening food allergies, please email info@nirmalaskitchen.com before registration. We will need to discuss the emergency protocol and get doctor permission to ensure your student’s safety. Additional Details Drop-off is at 9:45 am. Pick-up is at 3:00-3:15 pm. Please adhere to these times as we do not have the capability of providing before or after camp care. Safety in the kitchen and on the farm is a priority, and basic first-aid will be administered if needed (small cuts, scrapes, bruises). For any serious emergency, 911 will be called, and parents will be notified immediately. The nearest hospital emergency room is Vassar, Mid- Hudson Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY. Attire: Kids should wear weather-appropriate clothing, closed-toe shoes, and should bring a hat, and sunscreen each day. Aprons will be provided.
